Real Media Recorders allow to download RM, RMVB, RA, RAM, SMIL streams. Some of them also allow to postprocess content of the following metafiles: SMIL, RAM, RPM. Metafiles are just simple text files which are used mainly to redirect you to an actual stream. If your Real Media Recorder doesn't support metafile postprocessing you can get the URL of a media stream following our instructions.
Some Stream Recorders allow to save only Streaming Real Media. Other Streaming Video Recording Software allows you to download not only Real Media, Real Video and Real Audio, but also Windows Media, QuickTime video, QuickTime streams. After saving Real Media, Real Video or Real Audio streams to your hard drive as files, they could be played by RealPlayer or RealOne Player.
RTSP, HTTP, and PNM protocols are used for Streaming Real Media, Real Video and Real Audio.
PNM protocol is rather old and not supported by the majority of the newest stream recorders. Mass Downloader is the best recorder of PNM streams.
For non PNM streams we suggest you to try RM Recorder, Mass Downloader, HiDownload and Net Transport.
As for Real7ime Converter (r7c), we suggest not to use it until you try alternative software mentioned above.

As I know, Offline Explorer Pro can download SMIL and postprocess them for normal viewing offline.
